Legendaries - Unless specifically stated, you are not allowed to take a legendary Pokémon.
This encompasses ONLY: Articuno, Zapdos, Moltres, Mewtwo, Mew, Raikou, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Ho-Oh, Celebi, Regirock, Regice, Registeel, Latias, Latios, Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Jirachi, Deoxys, Uxie, Mesprit, Azelf, Dialga, Palkia, Heatran, Regigigas, Giratina, Cresselia, Manaphy, Darkrai, Shaymin, and Arceus.
No, Rotom is not a legendary. Arcanine is not a legendary. Riolu is not a legendary.
Dual-Types - If a single type is listed, the Pokémon taken CAN be a dual-type, but the Pokmon's primary type MUST be the one listed. For example, for Poison, you cannot take Ivysaur.
The only exception is Flying, since no Pokémon have Flying as their primary type.
If a giveaway specifically states a Dual-type, the type listed can be either of the two. For example, for Dual-Dark, you can take either Shiftry or Houndoom.
Items - If a giveaway states "any item", it refers to anything that wouldn't normally go into the Key Items pocket, or any otherwise special item. For example, you wouldn't be allowed to take the Bicycle or Oak's Letter.
